This is an example of the quality of the materials that the Green DIY Energy company produces. It’s a short intro film (only a minute) but it really says it all. These guys are first class! It seems obvious to me that they spent some time and money to create a clear message demonstrating that alternative energy is affordable and practical. Their mission to promote Solar Energy and Wind Energy options could not come at a more appropriate time. This is one of the smartest investments I ever made. Do-It-Yourself Solar Power–An

Efficient Energy Option

With power resources being consumed at a startling rate and with prices continuously rising, it makes perfect sense to start considering the extensive use of free and abundant energy – solar power. Every day, an increasing segment of the population is beginning to take into account DIY solar power as an excellent and viable option to power their homes. Aside from its convenience to the average homeowner, making use of homemade solar power decreases the dependency on energy companies, lessens the impact of increasing utility bills and eventually should create a more positive influence on our environment.

DIY solar power units and other alternative energy solutions offer important benefits to every family. As an example, after paying for the primary cost of installing a DIY solar panel unit, the electricity it produces will generally be cost free for as long as the unit is functioning. Since solar energy panels in particular, are low-maintenance and consequently generate clean energy, this should be the typical scenario for long term usage.

For most individuals, the use of DIY solar power at home is economically ideal and is in tune with their principles about the environment. The typical unit is a small solar array, wind generator or often both, not connected in any way to the power grid. This is known as a stand-alone unit and is utilized by numerous individuals to obtain independence from public utility sources. Actually, in a number of remote areas, stand-alone units are far more efficient than using power lines to connect to the power grid. Solar energy solutions are becoming more and more prevalent in areas where providing electricity by means of traditional power lines can be costly or virtually impossible. However, Do-It-Yourself solar power units are also being utilized by individuals who, although they reside close to the grid, demonstrate a dedication to power sources that do not pollute the environment by their autonomy from traditional electricity company energy service.

For most homeowners, passive solar technologies are the cheapest and most efficient means of a creating DIY alternative energy system.

There are numerous supplies companies that have all the materials needed to set-up solar panels of your own. Employing a solar panel specialist or contractor is generally not necessary for the average DIY-minded individual. It is however, very helpful be able to consult an experienced individual who has personally installed a DIY solar power unit of his own. Unfortunately, for many of us that is not usually someone in our data-base. The good news is that there are some very helpful information sources available targeted toward homemade energy systems and typical homeowner installations. A review of some of these resources can be found at this link. Homemade Energy Reviews

With all the hype and sensationalism being generated around our suffering economy and our ongoing energy crisis, it’s easy to understand how the public can be convinced that our salvation is largely in the hands of major alternative energy institutions and government assistance. It has been a long-standing American conviction that somehow, our future is secure, all our problems will be solved by science and all our challenges will be met by technology. The prevailing dogma is: “If all else fails, the government will bail us out and protect us.”

Unfortunately, recent events have shaken those beliefs to the core. When we look deeper into the cause and effect of our dilemma, we begin to understand that the probability of our lives returning to the unimpeded growth and world-wide financial expansion experienced by recent economies may be inaccessible in the foreseeable future and has certainly been demonstrated to be unsustainable.

Further scrutiny reveals that the solutions being sold to the American public as energy answers for our future are not realistic and are only stop-gaps. They constitute a fear-based methodology for restructuring or recreating the very monolithic institutions that hold us captive to our energy needs today. It certainly does not make sense from an economic standpoint or a logistical perspective to attempt to create solar energy generator fields large enough to be effective for our current needs. Subjected to a similar analysis, the cost of large field wind generation and the expense incurred in relocating the energy produced, simply does not add up to a model that any thinking business person would consider as a viable option in the long run.

So does that mean that we are to wring our hands in despair and give up all hope that civilizations of the world will ever be free from the energy dependency and upward price spiral of power available to support daily living? I think not, but I do believe that we are going to have to look a lot closer to home in order to be able to have answers that will create a long-term solution and provide future security for our growth and stabilized economy.

It is no secret that the technology exists sufficient to enable the production of alternative energy efficiently and economically. Where the proposal for large scale renewable energy breaks down is when we try to replicate the long-standing traditions of power generation for public use. There is so much inefficiency, waste and expense in energy generation and distribution given the present infrastructure that it truly diminishes the practicability of any large scale solution. Yet, because of prevailing attitudes encouraged by the sales hype around the social and environmentally responsible aspects of alternative energies, any resistance to these solutions is met with critical distain.

The problem is not that the technology or the solution is wrong; it is that it is misplaced. The answer lays in the development and use of alternative energy systems for individual homes. With the cost of solar cells becoming practical because of increased demand and improving efficiency, small systems can be produced that have a pay-back period often measured in months and not in years for the average home under 2000 square feet. With the addition of wind generators, passive heat collectors for hot water and the new low-cost, high-efficiency storage batteries available today, single family, whole-house energy systems are very affordable and very practical.

As more and more homeowners become aware of the logic of this approach, new companies are springing up in every niche of the industry to meet the rising demand for individual grid-free homes. The result is that the logistics of homeowners doing self-installations or having a system installed are reaching levels where the average person understands and can relate to the reality of energy independence.

It is encouraging to see that there is indeed a movement starting in the general public to take charge of their ongoing and future needs by making the investment in knowledge, time and available technology to reestablish the power of the independent and self-sustaining individual. At 4 Energy Freedom, I am proud that we have been able to find a way to encourage and inform those around us of the benefits of a greater vision accomplished in a smaller way.

My hope is that we can help others find some sunshine in their lives in the form of alternative energy solutions for individual homeowners.
